ActivityRichard Dark graduated in History from Lincoln College, Oxford in around 1899. He worked as a teacher in several schools and was headmaster at HM Duke of York's School, Dover, until 1915. He then taught at the Royal Naval College, Isle of White, until 1919 and was Director of Studies at the Nautical College, Pangbourne, Berkshire until 1921. In 1922 he joined the staff at Loretto School, Musselburgh, where he taught English and History. Dark wrote poems and prose, some of which were published and his 'Shakespeare and that Crush' achieved some success. He retired in 1938 and spent some time in Nigeria but returned to teaching during the war. He died in 1952.
