ActivityMichael Bonaventure was born in Edinburgh in 1962. He was an organ pupil of Herrick Bunney (d 1998) at St. Giles' Cathedral, Edinburgh and gave his first organ recital during the Edinburgh Festival in 1978. A year later he attended the University of Glasgow as an organ scholar and studied under Frederick Rimmer (? 1914-? 1998) and Judith Weir (b 1954). He later became organist of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Edinburgh. Bonaventure regularly gives organ recitals around the UK and overseas and his performances have been broadcast on Radio 3. Many of his recitals have been premières of works for organ and he is regarded as the leading interpreter of the works of many composers as well as composing music himself.
