ActivityStewart Sim was born in 1898 in Edinburgh where he was educated at Boroughmuir Public School. He began training to be an architect in around 1913 at the office of Public Works, Edinburgh, then attended Edinburgh College of Art where he showed some promise. During the latter part of the First World War he was a wireless operator then returned to complete his course at the art college. He worked for Durham County Council from 1928 and later returned to Scotland eventually becoming senior architect at the Ministry of Works. Sim worked on a number of major projects, the most important being the Carstairs State Hospital which was built between 1956 and 1958. He died in 1988.
