Activity | Mollie Hunter was born Maureen McVeigh in 1922 in Longniddry, East Lothian, and was educated at Preston Lodge School. She was a freelance journalist until 1960 but made her name as a writer of fiction for children. She published over 25 books of various types including fantasy and historical fiction and received many major awards including the Arbuthnot Lectureship and the Carnegie medal in 1975. Hunter also lectured and wrote, in Scotland and overseas, on the art of writing for children. She married in 1940 and her married name was MacIlwraith. |
