Person NameWillison family; family
ActivityThe Willison family of South Lanarkshire can be traced to John Willison, a supporter of the Covenanters (d after 1688), who lived at Glengeith, near Elvanfoot. His son James Willison (d c 1700) leased a farm at Auchendaff and the family remained livestock farmers into the 20th century. The family leased a number of other farms, mainly in Lanarkshire but also in Ayrshire and Perthshire. By the 19th century the main farm was Parish Holm on Douglas Water which was leased by the family until 1917. The farm at Acharn, near Killin, west Perthshire, was only given up in the 1980s after over 100 years in the Willison family.
