Person NameFalkirk and Larbert Water Trust; 1888-1921
ActivityDuring the second half of the 19th century the provision of an adequate supply of fresh water was a major problem for Falkirk Town Council. In 1888 the Falkirk and Larbert Water Trust was set up following the Falkirk and District Water Act 1888 (51 & 52 Vict., ch.cxvi). A small reservoir was established on the Faughlin Burn near Carronside to trap the water of the Denny Hills. This scheme was officially opened in 1891. The Trust was replaced in 1921 by the Stirlingshire and Falkirk Water Board under the Stirlingshire and Falkirk Water Order Confirmation Act 1921 (11 & 12 Geo. V, ch.cvii).
