Person NameFyffe-Jamieson Maternity Home House Committee; 1938-1948; Forfar
ActivityThe Fyffe-Jamieson Maternity home is in Forfar and was the work of Mrs F J Ruthven who was interested in health and nursing and was prepared to build and equip a hospital catering for twelve patients. She was responsible for the setting up of this maternity hospital which cost £7,000. The arrangements were undertaken by Mrs Ruthven without help and the hospital was later gifted to Angus County Council. Forfar had been badly in need of a maternity hospital and this was one of the best facilities in Scotland at the time. The House Committee was responsible for the staff, accommodation, wards and maintenance of buildings and grounds.
