ActivityA bill was brought through parliament in 1838 to improve and enlarge the harbour at Arbroath. It was rejected but reintroduced in 1839 and in May it received the Royal Assent. The board of management appointed under the act was formed of nineteen trustees who included the provost and two town council members. Four further trustees were elected by the Commissioners of Supply for Forfarshire and two by the burgh of Forfar. A further ten were elected.
