ActivityThe first recorded game of cricket in Scotland was in 1785 but (in common with other modern team sports) the game did not take hold until well into the 19th century. Brechin Cricket Club was founded in 1849 and was one of the earliest in Scotland. It was in continuous existence until at least 1927 although play ceased during the First World War. Early members included David Dakers Black (the Town Clerk) and Sir James Speid of Ardovie.
