ActivityThe Montrose Ladies' Clothing Society was founded on 18 December 1838. The object of the society was to provide clothing for the poor, especially during the winter. Members paid a subscription of 2/6d per annum, and worked six days for the society. The society consisted of a committee of 40 ladies, two secretaries, a treasurer and four superintendents of work. The committee met the first Thursday of every month. Four members of the committee were to act as a sub-committee who were to be responsible for the purchasing of material and the designation of work for the society. An annual meeting would be held in May to discuss funding and accounts. Old clothing would only be accepted on the first Thursday of every month at the regular meeting.
