ActivityFrancis Webster's Alma Works was established in 1795, although the weaving activity of the Webster family can be traced to 1758. During the 19th century, production was concentrated on sailcloth and yarn for seaming cloth, for an expanding home and overseas market. Since the decline in sailing vessels, the production of tarpaulins for rail and road haulage has been developed. The company still produced sail cloth for pleasure boats into the 20th century. In 1933, the two branches of the firm, Francis Webster and Son and the Netherwared Spinning and Weaving Company were incorporated as Francis Webster and Sons Ltd. The company went into liquidation in 1992.
