ActivityForfar Infirmary was established in 1860 to provide the area with medical and surgical relief in a more efficient form than could be furnished to the sick and suffering in their own homes. It cost £3,000 to build. The money was raised by public subscription and the hospital was maintained in the same way thorugh donations, subscriptions, fundraising events and bequests. Various extensions have been added, including a large one in 1926 costing £11,000 which included an operating theatre, x-ray facilities, laundry and boiler.
