Activity | William Barron Stevenson was born in 1869, a son of the manse in Forfar. He was educated at Edinburgh University and abroad, and was appointed Professor of Bala Theological College in 1898. He accepted the chair of Hebrew and Semitic Languages at Glasgow University in 1907 and, apart from a spell in naval intelligence during the First World War, he worked there until his retirement in 1937. He was a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and held several honorary lectureships. He published widely on mediaeval history and on Hebrew texts. He retired to Edinburgh, and died in 1954. |
