Activity | The Civil Defence Committee was instituted on 11 August 1941 and comprised local councillors, the Air Raid Protection officers, the Angus County Master of Works and the Chief Public Assistance Officer. They looked after such matters as providing additional air raid sirens, inspecting air raid shelters, establishing and overseeing back-up services to the Defence Services, the Mutual Assistance Scheme for the repair of war-damaged houses, etc. Their chairman was Sir Harry Hope, 1st. Baronet of Kinettles, Angus County (1865 - 1959). |
