ActivityJohn Bruce was born on 24 July 1758. He was educated at Marischal College, Aberdeen, where he developed interests in botany and mineralogy. In 1782, he was ordained Minister of Forfar. He also composed poetry and prose works. He died on 19 January 1817, and is buried in the churchyard of Forfar Parish Church.Reverend John Bruce contributed the account of the parish of Forfar to the 'Statistical Account of Scotland' of 1792. This account covers the origins of the name, boundaries, burgh history, buildings, topography, trade, agriculture, and social history. In particular, it charts progress in the prosperity of the town.
