ActivityThe Arbroath Literary Club was formed on the 26 April 1872 in the Burgh Court Rooms of Arbroath. The work of the club consisted of debates, essays and the arranging of public lectures covering various topical issues of the day. One of the earliest debates, which went on to spark a general discussion and a voted motion, was entitled 'Should Women be admitted to the Learned Profession'. Although the extant minutes cease in 1922, when the average weekly attendance was 16 members, the club was still running in 1923.
