ActivityCharleton Maternity Home was housed in the former Charleton House, once the home of George Carnegie (1726 - 1799) and his wife Susan Scott (d. 1821), one of the founders of Scotland's first asylum. It operated as a maternity home from the middle of the 20th century until the 1970s. It burned down in the 1980s. It has remained a ruin although in 1998 plans were submitted to transform it into an hotel.
