ActivityScotspeak was founded in 1994 by Mrs Valda Hood-Chin, a freelance researcher and broadcaster. The aim was to establish 'Scotland's first Community Sound Archive Centre and Museum for the recording, promotion and safe keeping of Scottish Oral History'. Scotspeak achieved charitable status in 1996. Based initially at the Old Police Station in Markinch, Scotspeak moved to the Greig Institute in Leven from 1998 to 2000. They returned to Markinch in 2000.
