Activity | Cockenzie and Port Seton grew out of the villa of Seton granted to Sir Alexander Seton, governor of Berwick by Robert I in 1321. In 1591 Cockenzie was created a burgh of barony in favour of Robert, 6th Lord Seton, later 1st Earl of Winton. In 1686 the Burgh of Cockenzie or Port Seton was erected into a burgh of regality (to be called Winton) in favour of George, 4th Earl of Winton. A town, until 1975 in the county of East Lothian, parish of Tranent and a police burgh from 1885. A small burgh from 1930 until 1975. The harbour at Port Seton opened in 1880.
