Activity | In the service of the Commissioners of the Forfeited Estates, he made several tours of the Highlands and Islands between 1767 and 1771. He was first employed by the Commissioners at the instance of Professor John Hope of Edinburgh University, who was professor of botany there. The survey was of the flora of the Highlands and Islands but later he was authorised to make notes on the fauna and natural features of the lands. According to a memorandum from Professor Hope, Robertson was to make five tours in total. |
