Activity | William Henderson was born at Aberdour in 1826 and was apprenticed to the North of Scotland Bank, Fraserburgh. He became a partner in George Thomson and Co in 1850, and married Thomson’s daughter. He was active in many financial concerns in the North-East of Scotland, a shipowner and merchant: he supported Liberal politics and the Free Church. He was elected Lord Provost of Aberdeen in 1886 and served until 1889. He was knighted in 1893, and died in 1904. |
