ActivityGlasgow University Dialectic Society was established in 1871 as a debating society. The President of the society is also the Chairman of the House and the Speaker. The other office bearers include: the Vice President/Deputy Speaker; the Macer, who is responsible for the bearing and safe-keeping of the Mace; the Clerk who is responsible for time-keeping and general ordering of the business of the House; the Recorder, who is the Assistant Hon Secretary of the society and maintains the records of the debates. There are 2 meetings in each of Martinmas and Candlemas terms and an Annual General Meeting in the Whitsun term.
