Person NameAberdeen City Archives; 1980-
ActivityAberdeen City Archives was officially established in 1980, though in effect it had been under the supervision of Margaret Rust, a member of staff in the Town Clerk’s Department of Aberdeen City Council, until her retirement in 1972. Apart from the administrative records of the Council, the archive also collects the records of private individuals, companies and organisations that reflect the history of Aberdeen. Since local government reorganisation in 1996, the archive has also been responsible for the holdings of the former Grampian Regional Archives. At present (2002) the archive has two public reading rooms, one in Aberdeen Town House in the centre of Aberdeen, and one in Old Aberdeen House, to the north of the city.
