ActivityThe Northern Association of Inspectors of the Poor and other Poor Law Officials was formed in Inverness at a meeting held on 30 March 1860. The aim of the society was for mutual protection of the Inspectors of the Poor and for sharing information and advice. The society was formed at the instigation of George Anderson, Solicitor and Inspector of the Poor of Inverness who issued a circular dated 5th March 1860 was issued to the Inspectors of the Poor in the Counties of Inverness, Ross, Cromarty. The founding members were the Inspectors of the Poor of Kilmorack, Killarlity, Killiernan, Nairn, Croy, Foddarty, Dores and Inverness. The society held quarterly meetings on the last Saturday of each quarter and members paid annual subscriptions not exceeding five shillings each.
