ActivityIn 1802 Thomas Telford carried out a survey concerning construction of the Caledonian Canal through the Great Glen between Inverness and Fort William. In 1803 Commissioners were appointed and the canal was completed 19 years later. The canal was reconstructed from 1843-1847. In 1963 British Waterways became responsible for operating and maintaining the canal.
