ActivityThe Tay River Purification Board was established in 1960 with a Board Membership of 25 and one member of staff. The aims of the Board were to improve water quality and to protect water resources. Activities included sampling, testing and monitoring water quality, prevention of pollution, guaging rainfall, streamflow, river level monitoring, flood warnings and granting licenses for irrigation. In 1996 river purification boards were incorporated into the new national Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).
