ActivityTayside Police was formed from an amalgamation of Dundee City Police, Angus Constabulary and Perth and Kinross Constabulary in 1975. 19 officers from the Western Division of Perthshire elected to join Tayside Police. The remaining 11 joined the new Central Scotland Police. In 1976 a new completely integrated Force Headquarters was opened in Dundee. In 1977 a new Divisional Headquarters was opened at Perth. In 1989 a Forensic Laboratory was opened at Police Headquarters, Dundee, funded by a joint funding arrangement by the police authorities of Tayside and Fife, supported by a grant from the Scottish Home and Health Department. In 1993 Central Scotland Police joined the joint funding arrangement. The Forensic Laboratory undertook all forensic science work for Tayside, Fife and the Central Region, as well as providing a fee service to external organisations, individuals and solicitors. Tayside Police continued to serve the region after the creation of unitary authorities in 1996.
