Person NameDundee Police Court; 1824-1975
ActivityDundee Police Court replaced Dundee Burgh Court. The burgh court in some form was probably as old as the burgh itself. The earliest extant burgh court book dates from 1550 and this series ends in 1898. In the sixteenth century and no doubt earlier the court had an important civil jurisdiction and a more restricted criminal one. The criminal jurisdiction was later rendered obsolete by the police courts held under a series of Dundee Police Acts from Dundee Police Commissioners Act, 1824 (5 Geo., c. 129) onwards. In 1975 the Police Court was superseded by Dundee District Court.
