Activity | In 1864 Broughty Ferry was erected into a Parliamentary burgh under the General Police and Improvement (Scotland) Act, 1862 (25 & 26 Vict., c. 101). In 1868 Broughty Ferry obtained an Order transferring to the Commissioners of Police all Statute Labour roads and streets within the burgh. In 1869 a burgh Police Court was established in Broughty Ferry. In 1889 the Secretary of State approved that Broughty Ferry set up its own burgh police force, as Broughty Ferry had a population of 8,000 and all burghs of over 7,000 were empowered to do so. In 1913 Broughty Ferry joined Dundee burgh under the terms of the Dundee Boundaries Act, 1913. |
