ActivityThe firm originated in 1797 when David Scott bought the Mid Wynd property as a weaving shed. The business continued uninterrupted in family ownership in the direct line, passing to David, the son of the founder, about 1820. This David was a victim of the cholera outbreak in 1849 and the business passed to his sons, James and William, under whose names it carried on until William retired in 1871, leaving sole ownership to James. Later, James appears in the Dundee Directory for 1878/9 as Jas. Scott and Sons. It then became a Limited Company called Jas. Scott and Sons Ltd. in 1905. Subsidiary and associated companies include Cia Anglo-Brasileira de Jutta, Brazil, Dura Investment Co. Ltd., J.K. Mills and Co. Ltd, Jas.
