ActivityJames Scrymgeour was born in Kirriemuir on 24 February 1821, the son of a grocer and ironmonger. In 1840 the family moved to Dundee. He was Secretary of The Prison Aid society and Almoner and Secretary to Lord Kinnaird of Rossie Priory in the Carse of Gowrie. James married Jeanette Calman, daughter of David Calman, Superintendent of Graving Dock and Patent Slip, in 1856. Their children were George, Charles, Edwin, Norval and Frances Anna Georgina Kinnaird Scrymgeour and Nora Drummond Scrymgeour. From 1938-1940 George was Provost of Newport. In 1922 Edwin Scrymgeour became an MP and brought a Prohibition Bill before Parliament. In 1931 Edwin became Chaplain to the Poor House in Dundee.
