Person NameRoyal Burgh of Perth; Treasurer
ActivityThe treasurer of Perth was, until 1765, solely responsible for the financial affairs of the council and burgh. He was, however, an elected official and as such often lacked the necessary experience or qualifications and tended to serve only a short term in office. In 1765 the town council decided to appoint a chamberlain to be responsible for day to day financial affairs. The office of treasurer continued to exist but in a supervisory capacity only.
