ActivityJohn H. Patterson founded the National Cash Register Company in 1884 to sell cash registers. Charles F. Kettering produced an electric cash register in 1906. By 1911 the one-millionth cash register was sold by the company. The company also sold accounting machines, typewriters, adding machines and bank posting machines and moved into telecommunications in the 20th century. In 1926 the company was incorporated in the State of Maryland. The National Cash Register Company opened a factory in Dundee in 1946 and also operated factories in Germany and Japan. The company changed its name to NCR Corporation in 1974.
