ActivityGeorge Frederick Ernest Albert (1865-1936) was second child of the Prince and Princess of Wales, later King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. His naval career began in 1877 when, at the age of 12, he became a naval cadet. In 1885 he qualified in seamanship, gunnery, torpedo work and pilotage from the Royal Naval College at Greenwich and was promoted Lieutenant. In 1891 he was promoted Commander. George's elder brother Prince Albert Victor Christian Edward died of pneumonia on 14 January 1892 and Prince George became second in succession to the throne.In 1893 Prince George married Princess Victoria Mary of Teck in the Chapel Royal, St James' Palace. In 1901, George's father became King Edward VII and George Prince of Wales. In 1910 King Edward VII died and King George V succeeded to the throne.
