Person NameDundee and Perth Railway Company; 1835-
ActivityThe Dundee and Perth Railway Company was formed by George William Fox Maule, Lord Kinnaird, in Dundee in 1835 in the hope that an Act of Parliament could be brought to build the Dundee and Perth Railway. However, due to failure to raise the full £160,000 share capital, the project was wound up in 1837. The scheme was later resurrected and on 31 July 1845 the Dundee and Perth Act received Royal Assent. The line was completed in May 1847 and a Grand Opening Trip from Perth to Dundee was arranged.See 'The Railways of Dundee' by Peter Marshall, (1996).
