ActivityThe company was established in 1876 although George Lowdon started business as a maker of scientific instruments in 1849 and was closely associated with the pioneering work of James Brown Lindsay. His son Edward became equally well known in the engineering world and involved the company in traction engines, hydraulic and water generation as well as the installation of electricity in castles and houses throughout the country. The tradition of being in the forefront of new industry has been continued with involvement in the North Sea Oil Industry. The firm was incorporated in 1947. Few records survive.
