Person NameDundee and Tayside Chamber of Commerce; 1836-
ActivityThe Dundee Chamber of Commerce formed in 1836 and obtained its charter of incorporation in 1864, although the first meeting of merchants, manufacturers and the shipping interest took place in 1814. However, such meetings fell into abeyance when the immediate threat of the imposition of duties was removed. Between 1819 and 1820 it was revived and until at least 1835 the meetings were informal and took place in the Baltic Coffee House. In 1856 the Chamber of Commerce moved to offices in the Royal Exchange.
