Person NameBorders Lapidary Club; 1967-1986
ActivityThe Borders Lapidary Club was formed in 1967 to encourage an interest in geology and the collection and polishing of minerals and gem stones. The Committee consisted of three ordinary members together with the Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. The Annual General Meeting was held in January. After the first year the club had 30 members and met in the clubrooms in King Street, Galashiels. After their first year they held an exhibition in Galashiels Public Library. At its last AGM in September 1985, the club was informed that it would be required to remove from their meeting rooms in Stirling Street by March 1986. It was decided that, due to falling membership, it would not be worth looking for new premises.
