ActivityGalashiels Film Society was founded in 1948 to encourage the study and advancement of film art by holding exhibitions of films illustrating or contributing to film development, by arranging lectures and discussions and acquiring a collection of films and film literature. They co-operated with societies with similar aims. Membership was open to anyone over sixteen, it was non-profitmaking and there was an annual subscription. The Society was managed by a Council consisting of a Chairman, Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer and not more than 12 other members of the society who met at an Annual General meeting, although Special General Meetings could be called at any time. Guest tickets could be sold for performances. The Society was wound down in 1986.
