ActivityJames Muir (1894-1960), banker, of Peebleshire was educated at Lyne School in the Lyne Valley. He began his career in 1909 with the Commercial Bank in Peebles, and then spent two years with the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China in London before joining in 1912, as a junior clerk, the Moosejaw, Saskatchewan branch of the Royal Bank of Canada. Muir became manager of the Royal Bank of Canada in 1945 and president in 1949. Muir was awarded the freedom of the Burgh of Peebles in 1952. He died in a car crash at Dreva, Peebleshire when on a motoring holiday.
