ActivityThe Edinburgh Social Peeblian Society was set up in 1782 for exiles from Peebles. Their activities included the awarding of prizes to the children of the High School and Kingsland School in Peebles and the provision of bursaries to Peebleshire natives attending Scottish universities. They held quarterly and annual meetings, and an annual dinner, which was cancelled in 1915 because of the war. In December 1862, the name of the society was changed to the Edinburgh Peebleshire Society.
