ActivityHawick Farmers' Club was established in 1776 and met in the Tower Hotel on the first Thursday of each month. It established the: Hawick Corn Market, 1778; Rink Fair, Jedburgh, 1779; hinds hiring market, 1780; and in 1826, the Hawick May Market for cattle and horses. In 1866 the Secretary was Dr Elliot of Goldielands. The annual subscription was £2. For several years, from 1786, the Farmers' Club also held ploughing matches. The first one was conducted at Ashiebank farm.
