ActivityThe Burgh Chamberlain (sometimes also known as the Treasurer) was responsible for the finances of the Burgh, collecting monies due to the Burgh, and settling all accounts. The Chamberlain maintained records of this activity, compiled the annual accounts for auditing and published an annual abstract of the accounts which provide a summary overview of all the financial dealings. The post ceased to exist with the abolition of Selkirk Town Council in 1975 and the functions were transferred to Berwickshire District Council and Borders Regional Council.
