ActivityThe Ormiston Institute was established with funds bequeathed by Charles Walter Ormiston and was administered by a Board of Trustees. The Institute was established in premises that had been owned by him in Melrose and was intended to provide accommodation for: Bowling; Lawn tennis; Music; Reading; Refreshment Rooms, etc. The Trustees appointed a Committee which was to manage 'The Ormiston' and which was to form rules for the club to be connected with it. The first meeting was called in September, 1884 and the club was still active in 1915. Fees were charged for the hire of the rooms which contributed to the upkeep of the premises.
