CaptionStatue of Amenirdis, Egypt
This is a replica statue of Amenirdis, ruler of Thebes. The original, held by the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, is made of translucent alabaster on a black basalt base, and was probably
painted and gilded. It is likely that it was intentionally left white, following the Renaissance ideal of pure white marble Classical statues.
