| Caption | Christian (Forbes) Gordon (1761-1801) Henry Raeburn (1756-1823) (copy) Christian Forbes of Ballogie married Charles Gordon of Buthlaw and Cairness. His wealth came from ownership of a Jamaican sugar plantation which held 190 people in slavery. They were absentee landowners who used their income to build one of the finest new houses in the North East at Cairness. Their son Thomas Gordon was a hero of the Greek War of Independence.
