Papers of Ronald Cumming, surgeon A collection of papers and articles from Mr Ronald Cumming's University days through to a career as a consultant surgeon in Shetland. His university days were spent at the University of Aberdeen in the 1940's from which there are certificates and various other documents. As a surgeon in Shetland he started to publish articles and papers and give a series of talks. His professional papers, talks and background notes are all included in the collection and cover a wide range of topics from surgery in the elderly, multiple sclerosis, medical problems following the oil development in Shetland and the history of Gilbert Bain Hospital. In the subject files a number of specialist areas are covered such as the oil industry and oil related diving, nurse training and the Viking club. Finally there is a small collection of papers related to various medical professional organisations. 1940-1997
