Translation of a letter from Shakim Bey (son of Ibrahim Bey) to Major Missett Acknowledging information that Great Britain had declared war on the Porte, welcoming the arrival of the British Navy and confirming the defeat of Mahomet Ali's troops at Assint. The Letter goes on to state his understanding that the intention of the British is to restore the Mamlouk government in Egypt, and that the Bey's forces are moving down the Nileto Gizeh in which direction Mahomet Ali's forces, after their defeat in Assint, have also gone.
