Balfour Stewart Auroral Laboratory data The bulk of the collection comprises boxes of auroral observations made in the period 1947-1975, and includes data collected during the International Geophysical Year (1957 - 1958), the International Year of Geophysical Co-operation (1959) and the International Quiet Sun Year (1964 - 1965). In addition, there are noctilucent cloud observations from 1964 to 1981; International Polar Year material (1932 - 1933) such as auroral observations and photographs from Fort Rae, Canada; auroral observations and noctilucent cloud observations made at Kirkwall, Orkney, 1931 - 1939; British North Greenland Expedition 1952 and 1957, aurora data from ship's logs 1959 - 1975 and RAF Kinloss 1953 - 1957. 1931 - 1981
