<dc:title>Letter from Mary Beattie to Lady Mayne</dc:title>
<dc:description>Letter from Mary Beattie, Aberdeen, to Lady Mayne, about Lady Mayne's last letter, which informed the Beatties about Sir William's appointment as a peer. Letter talks about Mr Beattie giving his papers for his 'quarto volume' to the printers in Edinburgh and how greatly profitable the quarto volume will be. She also writes about money owed from Lady Mayne, Sir William and Dr Porteus. Letter mentions that the Beatties go to Scotland on Whitsunday. Also mentions Mr Beattie's desire that he might retire from [Marischal] College and his receiving of two letters from Mrs Montagu. Mrs Beattie writes that Mr Beattie had been visiting Lord Erroll at Slains Castle. She mentions Mr Beattie's poor health; Lady Mayne's and Jamie's good health and the 'Goat Whey expedition', which the Beatties were to take the next week. Letter includes a post - script from James Beattie: "P. S. I wrote to your Ladyship about two weeks ago; and will have the honour to write to Sir William, as soon as I see by the papers, that he is a Peer, which I hope will be a few days.
